This patch adds Gribbit and Poison Gribbit to the game. Their abilities and types are very much a WIP, but I figured I’d put them out there anyways for you guys to mess around with them. Expect big changes to their abilities in the near future so don’t get too comfortable.
Visual Improvement
Interior areas like the PlayerHub have had their look updated. There are more than just rectangles now so hopefully this helps the game look a little more polished. The Arenas have also had a visual update.
The Wilds has also seen a big visual improvement. The environments are more full and less blocky. Definitely seems like a step in the right direction. You will also start in the middle of the Wilds instead of at the very bottom.
Leveling
Abilities are now unlocked as your monster levels up rather than all being available at once. This should help new players since lower level AI enemies will have a much smaller move pool when they start the Wilds. It also helps me balance lower level fights a little more by having the moves that are a bit too strong at lower levels unlock later.
Many of you were playing during the time that progress such as xp and levels weren’t being saved. I’m really sorry about that. To make up for that this patch significantly reduces the amount of xp needed to reach level 10. This is something I’ll be looking at to find a good sweet spot for it, but for now it should allow players to level more quickly in order to jump into multiplayer matches.
In-Game Chat
It’s a bit basic but it should work for now. You can now press Enter to start typing into the chat box. Now you’ll be able to chat it up with any other players in your game. Press T to toggle the Chat box on/off.
Spectating
All the Arena maps now have a yellow computer in the bottom center. When there is an ongoing battle you can use this computer to begin spectating the match. You can stop spectating by pressing ESC.
Balance Changes
The charging attacks like Tackle have always been pretty strong, with the main drawback being the required distance from your opponent. It was never intended for charging attacks to be usable from the starting battle positions, but sometimes, especially in lower levels, you would be at just the right distance that you could immediately use a charging attack without having to create distance. So to remedy this as well as to bring the charging attacks down a tad, the required distance to perform these abilities has been increased. Not too much, but enough to make a difference.
Some Psychic abilities have seen their costs go down, mainly their Stamina costs. Psychic types were just having a harder time due to running low on both mana and stamina too quickly. This should help deal with that.
Flame Charge has gotten a cost increase from 25 Stamina + 10 Mana to 25 Stamina + 25 Mana. This along with the distance requirement increase for charging moves should make Flame Charge more manageable and more of an investment to use.
Fire Punch has also received a nerf from 20 Stamina + 10 Mana to 20 Stamina + 20 Mana. Fire Punch, like Haymaker, can hit decently quick. But since it does 30 damage instead of 25 it was a bit too hard for many to block it. Along with the Burn effect, it was just a bit too potent. This should bring it down a bit.
Type Changes
Ice has become the combination of Water and Air types, just like Lava is the combination of Fire and Earth.
The intended result is that Bricedon would be able to use only lower level water abilities, but currently this results in Bricedon having access to all water abilities. This is because all water moves are currently labled as lower level due to Whomper. There is currently only 1 mud type ability in the game so Whomper who is a Mud type(Water + Earth) currently relies on having access to all the water abilities. I will work on creating mud type abilities in order to set things right, but for now you got water Bricedon.
In this patch you will spawn as the male Trainer instead of the female one. Figured I’d switch it up. The ability to choose your gender will come soon in a future patch.
I apologize for the patch notes not being as detailed as I’d like. I’m still getting used to all this stuff. Please let me know if you run into any problems with this patch so I can get to fixing them quickly.
See you In-Game!
